Recovery Mission

I finished out my pregnancy with the usual litany of "pregnancy woes" one hears about. Not being able to see my swollen feet, peeing approximately every 2 minutes, unable to sleep at night for the aching in my hips and other joints. Daniel arrived 5 days before his anticipated due date, and needless to say at that point I was ready...

Unanticipated were the symptoms that plagued me even after all the requisite recovery from labor and childbirth. Without getting into all the gory details, I was left wondering if I was suffering the onset of Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS. There were whole stretches of time where I was fine, but these would be followed by painful flare-ups of other symptoms that were gradually starting to affect how I lived my life. Much testing and "wait-and-seeing" followed, only to find out mid-April that I have/had gallstones! I am now recovering from gallbladder surgery, and the surgeon is pretty convinced this has been my problem all along. Why this took 1 1/2-2 years to diagnose is beyond me. I am starting a campaign where I am telling anyone with gastrointestinal distress to have their gallbladders looked at... The test is a simple ultrasound!

In any case, I am looking forward to being more in the swing of things where this blog and other projects are concerned. And especially looking forward to a Spring/Summer/future as a much happier Mom, friend and person now that this problem has been identified and tackled.

PS Did they ask if you wanted to keep the gall stone?

They didn't ask... my friend Kim's sister in law had the procedure and she got to keep (or at least see) hers. Kim said it's surprising what they look like. And her SIL had some astronomical number like 32 or something like that...

Yeesh!
